Website designers are always looking for a better, faster, and more convenient way to do business. With the release of the new iPad, arrives a new tool for Web Designers. The designers at THG Web Solutions have come up with a preliminary list of the Top iPad Apps for Web Designers in no particular order.
1) iMockups – Created by Endloop, this has to be one of the best and most useful apps for web designers on the new iPad. It allows the user to easily and quickly create mock up drafts of applications and websites. This is not a substitute for intricate mock ups via PhotoShop, but it gets the job done and looks professional.
2) FTP on the go – Developed by Headlight Software, Inc. this is a must for any web designer. This app includes a text editor, permissions editor, and the obvious ease of use because of the extra real estate on the new iPad’s screen.
3) Pages – This app comes directly from Apple. If you own a Mac, you know what Pages is. The Apple Pages app for the iPad is remarkably fast and simple to use. The app is a simplified version compared to the Mac version, but it is sure to impress. THG Web Solutions utilizes Pages to work up proposals, editorials, etc. Instead of waking up the Macbook, we simply pull out our iPad to type up a website agreement while sipping our morning brew at the local Starbucks. The template selection is much smaller than the original version, so be sure to FTP all of those custom Pages documents so that you can download them to your iPad later.
4) Numbers – Yet another Apple app taken from the Mac lineup. Much like MS Excel, but better. This app can open and export Excel documents. Great for all your spreadsheet needs.
5) Sketchbook Pro (Autodesk Inc) – Sketchbook Pro for the iPad is perfect for web designers as it allows for illustrations on the go. Use this to illustrate a new web design, logo, business card, or when you get bored at the office.
6) Adobe Ideas 1.0 (Adobe) – Adobe has released another illustrator program, but this time it’s FREE! Yes, FREE! Ideas is the perfect tag along app for any website designer.
7) Twitterrific (The IconFactory) – Every web designer needs their social networking apps on all their devices. Twitterrific is FREE! quickly post your tweets with ease on your iPad.
Wordpress for iPad – It’s obvious what this app does. Quickly manage your Wordpress blog on the iPad.
9) Evernote (Evernote 2009) – This handy app allows the user to take notes, recordings, and image notes. The best thing about this app is that it will sync the notes across your other gadgets such as your ipod touch, iphone, and Mac.
10) Calculator – The iPad doesn’t come standard with a calculator, so this is a must when adding up those design hours and dollars. It’s worth the 99 cents.
The iPad just released, so there are thousands of apps to follow. We’ll be there to add on to this list as the new apps roll out.
